Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Jean Paul Laborde, the Executive Director of UN Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate

Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Jean Paul Laborde, the Executive Director of  UN Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate on the sidelines  of 70th session of the UN General Assembly on 24 September, 2015.
 
During the meeting Jean Paul Laborde stated that joining number of foreign fighters to the conflict in Syria and Iraq constitutes a threat for the security. Executive director stressed that, the counter terrorism  efforts of the  Republic of  Azerbaijan, as country suffering from terrorism is highly commended. He underlined the importance of close cooperation with Azerbaijan. In this regard he expressed his intentions to pay a visit to Azerbaijan.
 
Elmar Mammadyarov reiterated  that Azerbaijan stands  ready for cooperation in this area. Furthermore he welcomed the visit intention of  Executive Director to Azerbaijan. 
 
Minister noted  that as regards with European countries small number of people are going to join to the fight in Syria and Iraq. He informed about the measures taken to prevent this development. In addition, Minister stressed the necessity of exchanging of information among states for resolution of this issue. Minister underlined that, without finding solution to political problems in Iraq and Syria the elimination of problem with foreign fighters remains impossible.
 
Jean Paul Laborde mentioned that the UN Security Council resolutions 2170, 2178 and 2199 set the important  base for solving the issue. He added that finding mechanisms for the implementation of resolutions should be among the steps to be undertaken.
