Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Foreign Minister of Iraq
Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Foreign Minister of Iraq on the sidelines of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly on 29 September, 2015.
Stressing the positive impact of official visits to the development of relations, Ibrahim al-Jaafari emphasized the importance of arrangement of mutual high-level meetings.
Speaking about the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict Ibrahim al-Jaafari stressed that Iraq steadily supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Ibrahim al-Jaafari talked about a window of opportunities for the development of relations between the two countries and underlined his country’s interest in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of fighting against terrorism.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov recalled the historical friendship relations between peoples of Azerbaijan and Iraq and underlined that the launch of direct flights between Baghdad and Baku will substantially contribute to the cooperation between the two countries.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov also emphasized that the firm support of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty in international format, as well as in the UN General Assembly by Iraq is highly appreciated.
Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov mentioned that the vast potential for the cooperation between the two countries and stressed about the importance of arrangement of mutual visits of business circles of both countries and organizing joint business forums for the development of economic-trade relations. Minister highlighted Azerbaijan’s interest in cooperation with Iraq specially in energy sector.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov invited his Iraqi counterpart to visit Azerbaijan. Iraqi minister accepted the invitation with pleasure.
