Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov had a meeting with John Shapiro, President of American Jewish Committee on the sidelines of 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov stressed that different civilizations, diverse ethnic and religious confessions lived in peace, mutual understanding and harmony in Azerbaijan for centuries. He noted that the multiculturalism and tolerance are the way of living of Azerbaijani people. Adding that 2016 was declared “the Year of Multiculturalism” by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting the views were also exchanged on the issues of mutual interest.
At the meeting John Shapiro expressed his high appreciation for the atmosphere of tolerance existing in Azerbaijan historically, the support and care devoted to the Jewish community of Azerbaijan and emphasized the importance of raising the public information and knowledge about all of these within the United States public.
