Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov received Sanjay Rana, Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Republic of Azerbaijan

Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov noted that the cooperation in political, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other fields between Azerbaijan and India is developing and he expressed his confidence that the meeting of the intergovernmental commission to be held in April of this year will contribute to further promotion of bilateral relations. 

Touching upon the importance of advancing the parliamentary diplomacy, Kh.Khalafov highly appreciated the establishment of India - Azerbaijan Friendship Group. 

Mentioning that the cooperation in the field of energy is developing, Kh.Khalafov stressed that the implementation of “North-South” transport corridor will contribute to the development of economic-trade relations. He also briefed about the “East-West” transport corridor which will further facilitate the cargo transportation from South-East Asia to Europe saying that: “Baku-Tbilisi-Kars rail road will be launched soon and the countries located along the Silk Road express their particular interests for this project”.

Underlining the importance of strengthening the legal-treaty framework for further enhancing the bilateral relations, Ambassador Sanjay Rana mentioned that they have currently the drafts of the agreements on a number of fields under consideration and he expressed his hope that certain legal documents will be signed in the near future.

Ambassador talked about his country's support for the “North-South” transport corridor and stressed that they welcome the activity of Azerbaijan in accelerating the implementation of this project.

At the end of the meeting, Deputy Minister Khalaf Khalafov and Ambassador Sanjay Rana signed the “Protocol on Exchange of the Instruments of Ratification of the Treaty between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of India on Legal and Judicial Cooperation in Civil and Commercial Matters”. They highlighted that in accordance with the Article 27 the above-mentioned Treaty comes into force since the 29th of February 2016 and creates favorable conditions for the development of cooperation in the field of mutual legal assistance in civil and commercial matters. 

At the meeting, the sides also exchanged their views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
