Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the World Intellectual Property Organisation

The Republic of Azerbaijan has been a member of the World Intellectual Property Organisation, WIPO, since 1995; Azerbaijan has entered into 16 agreements on the protection of intellectual property and related rights. In 2006, WIPO and the Republic of Azerbaijan signed a cooperation programme.

On the 13th to the 15th of May 2014, during the visit of the former WIPO Director General, Mr Francis Gurry, to Azerbaijan, the Government of Azerbaijan and WIPO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and approved the Action Plan for 2014/17.

In 2012, the Centre for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights of Azerbaijan became a member of the WIPO Global Network of Intellectual Property Academies.

In 2012, the WIPO Depository Library was established at the Azerbaijan State Economic University.

Thanks to financial support of WIPO, a group of representatives from our country graduated with the Master's Degree in Intellectual Property from the University of Turin (Italy).

During the visit of former WIPO Director General, Mr Francis Gurry, to Azerbaijan on the 4th to the 5th of June 2018, a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the Government of Azerbaijan and WIPO was signed and the Action Plan for 2018/21 was approved. The documents also provide for the development of joint activities to prepare and implement a national strategy of Azerbaijan in the field of intellectual property.
