Azerbaijan became a member of the World Meteorological Organisation on the 27th of December 1993.
According to the Decree signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the 30th of June 2003, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan was instructed to ensure the implementation of co-operation between Azerbaijan and the World Meteorological Organisation.
The Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organisation, Mr Petteri Taalas, visited Azerbaijan on 23-25 April 2018. During his visit, the Secretary-General was received at a high level in several institutions of the country, where the current state and prospects for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the World Meteorological Organisation was discussed, and confidence in the further development of successful co-operation between the countries was expressed. As part of the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the World Meteorological Organisation.
