Samir Sharifov

Samir Sharifov was born in Baku on November 25, 1976.

 

He graduated from Baku State University Faculty of International Law and International Relations with a bachelor's (1997), master's (2000) and postgraduate (2003) degree.

 

He took part in courses at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna (2002) and Stockholm University on Human Rights (2003), as well as in the “Leadership” Program organized by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs at ADA University (2008).

 

He worked at the Department for International Law and Treaties of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2000-2004);

 

Permanent Representation of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe (2004-2007);

 

Department for International Law and Treaties of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2007-2009);

 

First Secretary and Counselor, Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UN (2009-2014). During Azerbaijan's non-permanent membership to the UN Security Council, he served as a coordinator (2012-2013);

 

Deputy Director, Department for International Law and Contracts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2014-2018);

 

Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation (2018-2021);

 

Director, Department for International Law and Contracts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2021-2023).

 

By the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated July 12, 2017, he was awarded the Order "For Service to Motherland" 3rd Class.

 

By the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated July 8, 2023, S. Sharifov was awarded the diplomatic rank of “envoy extraordinary and plenipotentiary of second class”.

 

By the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated September 8, 2023, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

 

He speaks English and Russian.

 

Married and has two children.
