No:163/20, Information of the Press Service Department of the MFA of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the telephone conversation of Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov with Joseph Borel, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
On July 13, 2020, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov had a telephone conversation with Joseph Borel, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Minister Elmar Mammadyarov informed the EU official about the attempted attack of the Armenian armed forces on the state border between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the prevention of this military provocation and the ongoing tense situation in the region. He noted that this act of aggression by Armenia seriously casts doubt on the essence of the negotiations on the settlement of the conflict and that Armenia and its aggressive policy are a major threat to peace and security in the region, including major geostrategic projects in the region.
J.Borel noted that a spokesperson for the European External Action Service had issued a statement about the incident on the border between the two countries. He also expressed that the EU supports the urgent measures to prevent tensions in the region, as well as the mediation efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, and called for substantive talks to resolve the conflict.
