Georgian delegation also attended the meeting.
The main issue on the agenda of this conference, organized as a follow-up to the first trilateral meeting of the ministers responsible for foreign affairs and transportation of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Türkiye held in Baku on June 27, 2022, was the discussion on the measures undertaken to use the potential of the region in transport, communication, transit and other areas, and further expansion of the partnership. During the discussions, the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) and freight transportation in this direction was also discussed.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that the aforementioned format is one of the important platforms for further expansion of the cooperation between these countries which enjoy a high level of fraternal and partnership relations.
It was stated that in the context of current growing threats to global security, stability, and economic development, strengthening cooperation between these countries in the field of transport and communications is of great importance in terms of preventing and reducing risks and challenges at the regional level.
The importance and prospects of the Zangezur corridor as part of the Middle Corridor have been emphasized. The attention of the participants has also been drawn to the fact that this corridor has the potential to further increase transport opportunities within the framework of the Trans-Caspian International East-West Middle Corridor. It was noted that the opening of all communications in the region, including the Zangezur corridor, will serve the expansion of international transport links.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the meeting participants of the current situation against the background of the new realities emerging in the region after the 44-day war, including efforts to advance the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He noted that the end of the conflict created new opportunities to achieve long-term peace and stability in the region through the restoration of economic and communication relations.
Minister talked about the large-scale rehabilitation and reconstruction work carried out in the liberated areas and the efforts to ensure the return of internally displaced persons to their homes.
It was noted that one of the biggest obstacles to the rehabilitation and reconstruction activities carried out by Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period is the existing landmine threat. In this regard, it was stated that the Armenian side continues to threaten Azerbaijan by laying new landmines in the territories of Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period as well.
At the end of the trilateral meeting, the "2022-2027 Road Map" on the development and operation of the Middle Corridor Route passing through the territory of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan was signed in accordance with the Baku Declaration.
