On 27 November 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, within the framework of his official visit to the Italian Republic, met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic Antonio Tajani.
During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the high-level development of the Azerbaijan–Italy strategic partnership, and the existing opportunities for expanding bilateral relations were reviewed.
The Ministers particularly noted that the visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Italy last year and the official visit of the President of Italy Sergio Mattarella to Azerbaijan in September of this year have further strengthened the political dialogue between the two countries. In addition, the participation of the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy Giorgia Meloni in COP29, as well as regular meetings between the leaders, were recalled with satisfaction.
It was noted that the opening of the new building of the Italy–Azerbaijan University during President Mattarella’s visit to our country is of high importance, and that cooperation in the field of education has become one of the key pillars of our strategic partnership.
The Ministers reviewed existing opportunities for expanding cooperation in the fields of energy, economy, trade, transport, culture, education and defense.
Emphasizing the strategic importance of energy cooperation between the two countries, it was noted that large-scale projects implemented in this field play an important role in ensuring the reliability of Europe’s energy supply.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed his counterpart about the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process, peace and stability initiatives in the region, the historic significance of the Joint Declaration of 8 August 2025 signed in Washington, and the agreements reached. Satisfaction was expressed with the active participation of Italian companies in reconstruction and restoration works in the liberated territories.
The importance of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy within international organizations, including the European Union and other multilateral platforms, was noted.
The opportunities for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy within the framework of the World Urban Forum to be held in our country next year were also reviewed.
An exchange of views on the Russia–Ukraine conflict, the situation in the Middle East, as well as other international and regional issues of mutual interest was also included during the meeting.
