No:411/24, Press release on the next round of political consultations between Azerbaijan and Spain

On 11 October 2024, the next round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Spain was held in Madrid.

 

At the meeting, the Azerbaijani delegation was led by Fariz Rzayev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Spanish delegation was led by Diego Belio Martinez, Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs.

 

During the meeting, the current situation and development prospects of relations between Azerbaijan and Spain in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres were discussed.

 

The importance of continuous political dialogue and the importance of holding high-level meetings and mutual visits in this regard was emphasized.

 

The significance of the development of the relevant contractual and legal framework for the expansion of cooperation in various fields was noted.

 

Emphasizing the importance of Azerbaijan-Spain inter-parliamentary relations, mutual visits and intensification of bilateral and multilateral contacts in this regard were said to be useful.

 

The importance of economic cooperation, mutual trade in this regard and the activity of Spanish companies in Azerbaijan was emphasized in the relations between the two countries. For the development of economic relations, the expediency of benefiting from opportunities for cooperation in areas such as diversification of trade, promotion of investments, alternative energy, transport, high technologies, and agriculture was noted.

 

It was noted that relations in the humanitarian field, including cooperation in the fields of education and culture, as well as exchanges in the tourism sector, are useful in strengthening people-to-people contacts.

 

Issues of mutual interest on the international agenda, including the continuation of cooperation in multilateral formats, were in the focus of the consultations. The counterpart was informed about the preparations for the session of the 29th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in Azerbaijan in November 2024 and the work underway.

 

The counterpart was informed about the post-conflict situation in the region, including Azerbaijan's efforts to establish a lasting peace, existing landmine threat in our liberated territories, and the large-scale reconstruction efforts that have been undertaken.

 

F. Rzayev also attended roundtable discussions with researchers and experts during the visit, as well as meetings with other Spanish officials.
