On 8 October 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov received the Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain Diego Martínez Belío, who is on a visit to our country.
During the meeting, the current state and development prospects of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Spain, particularly the importance of political dialogue, cooperation in economic, energy, tourism, transport, humanitarian and cultural fields, as well as regional issues were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that relations with Spain are based on the principles of friendship and mutual respect, and noted the importance of further developing the existing political dialogue and cooperation within international organizations between the two countries. The importance of the meetings held between the leaders in Baku in November last year within the framework of COP29 and in Tirana in May of this year was emphasized.
At the same time, it was noted that the first meeting of the Strategic Economic Dialogue between Azerbaijan and Spain held in Baku in March of this year is an important platform.
During the meeting, the sides also reviewed partnership relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union, as well as opportunities for cooperation in energy security, green energy, and transport-communication projects.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided the other side with detailed information on the new realities formed in the region in the post-conflict period, the peace process, the outcomes of the historic Washington meeting, as well as the steps taken by Azerbaijan for sustainable development and stability in the region.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also held on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
On the same day, the next round of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain was also held. The delegations were led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Fariz Rzayev and by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain Diego Martínez Belío.
