No:350/21, Information of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Yves Le Drian
On September 24, 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Yves Le Drian on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
During the meeting, the Ministers exchanged views on the current state of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and France, and expressed mutual interest in developing relations, especially in the political, economic and humanitarian fields.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov broadly informed his interlocutor about the large-scale restoration and reconstruction works currently underway in the territories liberated from the occupation of Armenia, and the facts of deliberate destruction of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia during the occupation, as well as looting and falsification of cultural heritage.
The humanitarian consequences of the Armenia’s decades-long deliberate contamination of the liberated territories with mines and other explosives, which are a major threat to human life, have been brought to the attention of the other side. The importance of Armenia's fulfillment of international humanitarian law obligations to hand over accurate maps of mined areas to Azerbaijan was highlighted.
During the meeting, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also said that Azerbaijan supports the normalization of relations on the basis of the principles of the international law and informed his interlocutor about the steps taken by Azerbaijan in this direction. It was stressed that Azerbaijan is ready to cooperate with all parties who intend to contribute to strengthening peace and security in the region.
The Ministers also exchanged views on current issues on the international agenda, including cooperation between the two countries within the framework of international organizations.
