No:251/22, Information of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the repatriation of 2 minor citizens of Azerbaijan from Iraq
On May 25, 2022, two children detained in the penitentiary facility of the Republic of Iraq and whose citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan was determined were repatriated to our country via the Baghdad-Istanbul-Baku route.
Bringing the aforementioned persons to our country was possible as a result of coordinated and phased measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Thus, first of all, their citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan was determined. Afterwards, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Iraq organized their repatriation to the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the children were provided with certificates of return to the Republic of Azerbaijan and flight tickets. The Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Istanbul provided a quick passage of the children at the airport.
Upon arrival in the Republic of Azerbaijan, the repatriates underwent the necessary medical examinations and were placed in the appropriate institution for reintegration and rehabilitation. It is planned to hand them over to their relatives after the completion of the relevant procedures.
It should be noted that the repatriation process, which is a clear example of the state's care for its citizens, is the next humane step of this kind. Thus, so far, the number of Azerbaijani citizens repatriated from Iraq to our country, including 288 children and 2 women, has reached a total of 290 people.
