On 17 June 2025, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, David Lammy.
During the telephone conversation, issues of cooperation between the two countries, the current regional situation arising from the Israel-Iran confrontation, as well as the prospects of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia were discussed.
The UK Minister conveyed congratulations on the occasion of Liberation Day and expressed gratitude for the congratulations extended on the national holiday of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland – the King’s Birthday. He also noted that they highly appreciate the condolence letter sent by President Ilham Aliyev regarding the death of UK citizens as a result of the crash of a passenger aircraft belonging to “Air India” near the city of Ahmedabad. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in turn, expressed gratitude for the congratulations and conveyed his condolences.
The sides expressed serious concern over the security situation in the region resulting from the Israel-Iran confrontation and emphasized the importance of continuing diplomatic contacts and negotiations in order to prevent further escalation.
The ministers also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
