On 14 June 2025, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

 

During the telephone conversation, the situation arising from the operation launched by Israel against the territory of Iran was discussed.

 

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran provided information on the attack carried out by the State of Israel, as well as the steps taken by Iran.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed concern over the escalation of the situation in the region. He conveyed condolences in connection with the death of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, other officials, and Iranian citizens. It was emphasized that the situation around nuclear facilities is a cause for concern. It was noted that it is important to resolve the existing problems only through dialogue and diplomatic means in accordance with the norms and principles of international law.

 

At the same time, it was emphasized that it is not possible for the territory of Azerbaijan to be used by any country against a third country, including neighboring and friendly Iran.

 

Taking into account that Iran’s airspace is closed, it was informed that conditions have been created for representatives of various countries and Iran to transit through Azerbaijan’s land border.

 

Considering the risk of the conflict spreading to a wider region, the importance of resuming diplomatic efforts was once again noted.

 

During the telephone conversation, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
