On 29 April 2024, during the meeting of the “Mine Action Support Group” held in Geneva — a coordination format of donor countries in the field of mine action — the issue of increasing assistance to Azerbaijan in mine clearance was discussed.

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and ANAMA, who participated in the meeting, informed attendees about the scale of destruction and the mine problem caused by Armenia in Azerbaijan, mine victims, achievements and challenges in mine clearance, the need for external assistance, and Azerbaijan’s international activities in this field.

It was emphasized that adequate international support is necessary for the prompt elimination of the mine threat, which directly affects the return of Azerbaijanis to their native lands, reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in the liberated territories, and the safety of the population. It was noted during the meeting that such assistance, as a manifestation of humanitarian solidarity, can contribute to development, peace, and reconciliation.

At the event, an exchange of views took place on various aspects of the mine problem in Azerbaijan, and it was agreed to continue discussions aimed at addressing these challenges.
