On 20 April 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana in the city of Bangkok within the framework of the 82nd session of UNESCAP.
During the meeting, the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCAP were discussed.
The growing role of Azerbaijan on regional and international platforms was particularly emphasized. Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Summit dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) in 2023, as well as its successful hosting of COP29 in 2024 were noted.
During the meeting, touching upon future cooperation opportunities between the UNESCAP and SPECA regions, the strategic importance of cooperation within the framework of the Middle Corridor was emphasized.
At the meeting, views were also exchanged on other global developments and challenges of mutual interest.
A Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and UNESCAP was signed between the sides.
