No:161/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin

On 12 April 2024, within the framework of his working visit to the Republic of Belarus, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin.

During the meeting, the sides emphasized that historical, cultural, and religious ties between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan constitute the foundation of friendly relations between the two countries.

The ministers highlighted that there is significant potential for further deepening the partnership relations that have intensified in recent years.

It was noted that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to relations with the brotherly and friendly countries of Central Asia. Alongside a number of multilateral events, the importance of the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, for the first time at the Fifth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia held in Dushanbe on 14 September 2023, upon the invitation of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, was emphasized.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan intends to elevate its relations with Central Asian countries, with which it shares common historical, religious, and cultural ties, to a qualitatively new level, and noted the importance of maintaining the observed momentum in mutual visits between the two countries.

During the meeting, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized the importance of continuing and developing cooperation within international and regional organizations, as well as bilateral political consultations between the two countries.

The sides also underlined the importance of the activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan in terms of developing economic relations.

At the same time, it was emphasized that there is great potential for the development of cooperation in trade, industry, agriculture, investment, ICT, transport, and other sectors.

During the meeting, the sides noted the importance of exploring ways to develop mutual tourism ties, considering the extensive tourism potential of both countries, as well as examining opportunities for cooperation on joint tourism routes and within the Middle Corridor.

In addition, information was provided on the preparation process for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), and opportunities for cooperation within this framework were assessed.

During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
