No:157/25, Press release on the meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Tanja Fajon

On 17 April 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Tanja Fajon, who is on an official visit to our country.
During the tête-à-tête meeting and the expanded format meeting held between the ministers, the current state and development prospects of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Slovenia, including the intensification of political dialogue, the increase of high-level contacts, and cooperation opportunities in various fields were discussed.
During the meeting, it was noted that Azerbaijan-Slovenia relations are based on the principles of friendship, mutual respect, and beneficial cooperation, and it was emphasized that the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations will be celebrated in 2026. It was emphasized that political dialogue, high-level visits, interparliamentary relations, economic and humanitarian exchanges are of great importance in terms of the development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
The sides discussed cooperation opportunities in the fields of energy, green technologies, transport, ICT, chemistry and pharmaceuticals, tourism, and other areas, as well as the potential for expanding and increasing economic and trade relations and trade turnover. The documents signed last year between Azerbaijan’s “SOCAR” and Slovenia’s “Geoplin” companies, as well as between the Ministries of Energy of the two countries, were particularly noted in the field of natural gas and energy.
It was emphasized that the reconstruction and restoration process carried out in Karabakh and East Zangezur, as well as cooperation issues within the framework of international transport corridors and the Alat Free Economic Zone, are of great importance in the context of Azerbaijan-Slovenia cooperation.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed Tanja Fajon about the situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the reconstruction work carried out in the liberated territories, the fight against the mine threat, and the return of internally displaced persons. The current stage of negotiations on the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace agreement and the factors hindering this process, in particular the existence of references to territorial claims against the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, and the issue of the dissolution of institutions such as the Minsk Group, which has already lost its significance, were brought to attention.
During the meeting, other issues of mutual interest and prospects for cooperation on international platforms were also discussed.
Following the meetings, a press conference was held, the ministers delivered statements and answered questions from media representatives.
