No:142/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of the Congo, Jean-Claude Gakosso

On 2 April 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of the Congo, Jean-Claude Gakosso, within the framework of his visit to our country.

A tête-à-tête meeting between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso was held, followed by an expanded meeting with the participation of the delegations of both sides.

During the expanded meeting, the existing cooperation between the two countries in bilateral and multilateral platforms, preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), as well as the regional situation were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted with satisfaction the mutual support and beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Congo within international organizations, particularly the United Nations (UN) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

The importance of mutual visits and contacts for the development of cooperation in various areas, including oil and energy, natural resources, the public services sector, education, tourism, humanitarian and other fields was emphasized.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that relations with African countries were further developed during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the NAM, and stated that Azerbaijan remains interested in expanding the existing cooperation.

Providing detailed information to the other side on the negotiation process and preparations carried out within the framework of our country’s COP29 presidency this year, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that COP29 creates new opportunities for cooperation.

During the meeting, the ministers expressed confidence that the joint declaration on cooperation between the two countries, as well as other official documents planned to be signed during the visit of the President of the Congo to our country, would contribute to further deepening relations.

The sides noted that further expansion of cultural ties between the two countries, including the organization of festivals in the field of culture, could be beneficial.

Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso expressed his satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan, and noted that there is significant potential for the development of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Congo, emphasizing the importance of utilizing these opportunities.

During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
