No:141/25, Press release on the next meeting of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Portugal

On 10 April 2025, the next meeting of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Portuguese Republic was held in the city of Baku.

 

The delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Fariz Rzayev, and the delegation of the Portuguese Republic was led by Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Helena Malcata.

 

During the meeting, the prospects for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Portugal were discussed, and the importance of mutual official visits and cooperation within the framework of international organizations was noted.

 

The sides discussed the expansion of economic relations and opportunities for cooperation in the fields of energy, transport and high technologies. A broad exchange of views was also held on strategic energy and transport-infrastructure projects implemented in the region at the initiative of Azerbaijan.

 

Deputy Minister F. Rzayev spoke about Azerbaijan’s climate diplomacy and contributions to the global climate agenda, the country’s chairmanship of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the initiatives put forward within the framework of the session and the achievements made.

 

During the meeting, detailed information was also provided on the situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process, the steps taken by our country towards ensuring sustainable peace, the existing obstacles in the peace process, as well as the large-scale reconstruction works carried out in the liberated territories.

 

At the end, views on regional and international issues of mutual interest were exchanged by the sides.
