On 29 March 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov received the Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Pavel Knyazev.

During the meeting, issues arising from the bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Russia, as well as the current situation in the region were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov brought to attention that the existing relations between the two countries positively affect the expansion of cooperation within regional and international platforms. Discussions were held on the prospects of cooperation within a number of international platforms.

The counterpart was informed about the negotiation process conducted by our side within the framework of our country’s hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) this year, as well as the preparatory work carried out.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, referring to the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period and Azerbaijan’s peace and reconstruction efforts in the region, stated that a number of steps creating new challenges for advancing the peace process, including attempts by states located far from the region to project their unilateral positions onto the region, hinder the process.

In this direction, it was emphasized that our country’s position regarding the organization of the EU-Armenia-US joint conference to be held on 5 April this year in such a non-transparent and non-inclusive environment, as well as our concerns that such initiatives may encourage Armenia, where revanchist sentiments prevail, to new provocations, have been clearly expressed.

It was brought to attention that despite the existing difficulties and challenges, our country is determined to continue its activities towards ensuring regional peace and stability.

During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
