No:135/26, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the newly appointed Ambassador of India to Azerbaijan Abhay Kumar

On 1 April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, received the newly appointed Ambassador of India to our country, Abhay Kumar.

 

During the meeting, the current state and prospects for the development of existing relations between Azerbaijan and India were discussed.

 

The sides noted that the mechanism of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs would be useful not only for cooperation issues but also for discussing issues constituting differences of opinion between the two countries.

 

During the meeting, it was stated that historical relations between the countries form the basis of ties, and satisfaction was expressed with the existence of direct flights and the development of cooperation in tourism and education.

 

Touching upon cooperation in the energy sector, it was noted that the participation of India’s “ONGC Videsh” company in the “Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli” (ACG) block of fields of Azerbaijan and in the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline constitutes one of the important directions of bilateral economic relations.

 

During the meeting, concern was also expressed over the existing tensions in the Middle East. The Ambassador of India expressed his deep gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for the support provided during the evacuation of Indian citizens from the territory of Iran on behalf of his country.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated the Ambassador on his new appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic activity.

 

Ambassador Abhay Kumar expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and particularly emphasized his intention to contribute to the expansion of Azerbaijan–India relations in all directions during his tenure.
