No:135/25, Press release on the visit of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev to Guinea-Bissau

On 6–7 April 2025, a government mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev visited Guinea-Bissau with the aim of expanding bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Guinea-Bissau in political, economic, humanitarian and other fields, as well as continuing the existing high-level cooperation relations within the framework of international organizations.

 

During the visit, the delegation was received by the President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló.

 

Within the framework of the visit, meetings were also held with Prime Minister Rui Duarte de Barros and Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities Carlos Pinto Pereira.

 

During the visit, an expanded meeting of the Azerbaijani delegation with the delegation of Guinea-Bissau led by Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Integration Soares Sambu was held. The meeting was attended by heads of institutions of this country in the fields of environment and biodiversity, natural resources, agriculture, defense, as well as the “Petroguin” oil company.

 

During the meetings held, it was noted that contacts between our countries have intensified in recent years and that this has played a useful role in discussing prospects for cooperation. It was also emphasized that there is potential for the development of cooperation in a number of areas, including oil and gas, green energy, agriculture, fisheries, humanitarian and education fields, and that it is important to establish a bilateral legal and contractual framework in the relevant areas.

 

Within the framework of the visit, the first meeting of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities of Guinea-Bissau was also held. The political consultations were led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev from the Azerbaijani side and by State Secretary for International Cooperation Fatumata Jau from the Guinea-Bissau side.

 

During the political consultations, bilateral political and economic issues, as well as cooperation within the framework of the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other international organizations were discussed.

 

The government mission included representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense, Defense Industry, Economy, Agriculture, the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Agency, and “AzerGold” CJSC.
