No:132/24, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the Minister of State for Nuclear and Alternative Energy at the United Kingdom Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Andrew Bowie

On 21 March 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Minister of State for Nuclear and Alternative Energy at the United Kingdom Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Andrew Bowie within the framework of his participation in the Nuclear Energy Summit in Brussels.
During the meeting, Azerbaijan’s contribution to energy security, various directions of cooperation between the two countries in this field, as well as events and projects within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) were discussed.
It was emphasized that importance is attached to the development of bilateral partnership relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom based on mutual respect and beneficial cooperation. It was brought to attention that it is important to combine efforts to further strengthen these strategic relations.
The sides emphasized that along with long-standing strategic cooperation in the field of oil and gas production and export, there are broad prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the field of alternative energy. During the meeting, reference was made to Azerbaijan’s broad potential in solar and wind energy production and to the projects currently being implemented, as well as to the work on the establishment of Green Energy Zones. The work on the 240 MW solar power plant project implemented jointly with BP was reviewed.
During the meeting, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information to the counterpart on our country’s plans and priorities regarding its COP29 chairmanship. The importance of joint efforts in combating climate change was noted.
During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
