On 26–28 March 2025, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, paid a visit to the People’s Republic of China.
On 28 March, the next round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the People’s Republic of China was held in Beijing. The delegations were headed by Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov from the Azerbaijani side and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Liu Bin from the Chinese side.
During the consultations, a detailed exchange of views was held on cooperation in political, economic, trade, energy, green transition, digital development, transport and logistics, education, culture, tourism and other fields. The importance of mutual visits at high levels and their positive impact on many areas of bilateral relations was noted.
Within the framework of the discussions, the historical significance of the “Joint Statement on the Establishment of Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the People’s Republic of China,” adopted during the meeting held on 3 July 2024 between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and the President of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Xi Jinping, was emphasized.
It was stressed that this important political document opens broad horizons for strengthening strategic cooperation between the two states.
Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov provided detailed information on Azerbaijan’s peace agenda, the normalization process with Armenia and existing obstacles, as well as reconstruction and construction works and investment projects in the territories liberated from occupation.
At the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on cooperation within the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and other international platforms, regional issues and topics of mutual interest.
Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov also met on 27 March 2025 with Chen Zhou, Deputy Head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. During the meeting, the current state and prospects of bilateral relations were discussed. It was particularly noted that the mutual trust and friendship between the heads of state constitute the foundation for the comprehensive development of relations between Azerbaijan and China.
Within the framework of the visit, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov also met with Nurlan Yermekbayev, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation between our country and the SCO.
At the same time, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov met at the Center for China and Globalization with the leadership of the institution and representatives of various think tanks. He provided comprehensive information about the Republic of Azerbaijan, spoke about the current situation in the region as well as Azerbaijan-China relations, and answered questions from the participants of the event.
