No:114/22, Information of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with the UN High-Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Miguel Ángel Moratinos
On March 12, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the United Nations High-Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Miguel Ángel Moratinos in the margins of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
During the meeting, Miguel Ángel Moratinos praised the importance attached in Azerbaijan to inter-religious and inter-civilizational dialogue, as well as the work done in this direction, noting that the steps taken by Azerbaijan in this regard are significant and exemplary. Recalling his visits to Azerbaijan at different times, Miguel Ángel Moratinos said that during his last visit to Azerbaijan he visited the liberated territories and saw the destruction there with his own eyes. Noting that steps have been taken to strengthen cooperation with Azerbaijan at the next stage within the "Peace for Culture" initiative through the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Miguel Ángel Moratinos said a memorandum of understanding will be signed in the near future and a special event will be held in New York.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said that people of different nationalities and religions traditionally live in peace in Azerbaijan. Giving detailed information about the traditions of multiculturalism in Azerbaijan, the Minister noted that multiculturalism is a state policy in Azerbaijan. At the same time, Jeyhun Bayramov said that Azerbaijan is determined to take steps to reintegrate Armenian citizens living in the conflict-affected territories into the political, social and economic life of the country, ensuring the same rights and freedoms as all Azerbaijani citizens.
Touching upon the steps taken to protect and restore cultural heritage in the liberated territories during the post-conflict period, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in particular, highlighted the cooperation with international experts and organizations in the field of protection and restoration of all samples of cultural heritage in the liberated territories, regardless of their religion or ethnicity, and also noted how this shows the transparency and openness of Azerbaijan in this process.
At the meeting, other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
