No:089/25, Press release on the visit of the delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov to the Republic of Suriname

From 3 to 5 March 2025, a government delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov, paid a visit to the Republic of Suriname.
The delegation included representatives of the Ministries of Economy, Energy, Science and Education, Agriculture, the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic, and AzerGold CJSC.
During the visit, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation of Suriname, Albert Ramdin, as well as Deputy Minister Miriam MacKintosh.
During the meetings, the visit of the Azerbaijani government delegation to Suriname—following the meeting between the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the President of Suriname, Chan Santokhi, held during COP29 in November last year—was highly appreciated by the Surinamese side. The sides discussed issues of mutual interest, including the exchange of high-level visits, investment, transport, green energy, humanitarian cooperation, science and education, culture, and other potential areas of cooperation.
Within the framework of the visit, the first round of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation of Suriname was held. The consultations were led by Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov on the Azerbaijani side and Deputy Minister Miriam MacKintosh on the Surinamese side. During the consultations, the current state and prospects of bilateral and multilateral political relations were discussed.
As part of the visit, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov delivered a presentation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Suriname on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities. Following the presentation, he gave an interview to Suriname’s state media agency “CDS.”
Meetings were also organized for members of the Azerbaijani government delegation with senior officials of relevant state institutions of Suriname. Detailed presentations were made on investment opportunities in various sectors, and substantive discussions were held on prospects for cooperation.
During the visit, members of the Azerbaijani delegation held a meeting at the state oil company “Staatsolie” and visited the “Tout Lui Faut” oil refinery as part of a familiarization tour.
