No:023/25, Press release on the summoning of the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Azerbaijan to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
25 January 2025 11:35
On 25 January 2025, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Azerbaijan Seyed Jafar Aghaei Maryan was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, a protest was expressed regarding the campaign openly conducted recently in Iranian media outlets close to government circles against Azerbaijan and the leadership of our country.
In particular, it was noted that following the 16th meeting of the State Commission on cooperation in economic, trade and humanitarian fields between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran held in Tehran after a long interval, as well as productive official meetings, the summoning of Azerbaijan’s Ambassador in Iran to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the expression of an unfounded protest, along with the expansion of the campaign in the Iranian media, caused misunderstandings.
At the same time, it was brought to attention that instead of an apology by Friday prayer leader Seyyed Hassan Ameli for the insulting remarks made against Azerbaijan during a gathering in Ardabil, the conduct of a campaign supporting Ameli, as well as the involvement of a number of religious figures, including the Friday prayer leader of Qazvin, in anti-Azerbaijan activities, is unacceptable.
It was emphasized that such steps are aimed at damaging relations between the two countries and that it is necessary to prevent them.
The Chargé d’Affaires of Iran expressed regret over some unpleasant statements and actions and promised to convey the matter to the competent authorities of his country.
