On 16 January 2025, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with the delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Maka Botchorishvili within the framework of her visit to our country.

The one-on-one meeting between the Ministers was later continued in an expanded format with the participation of delegations from both sides.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov conveyed his congratulations to his counterpart on the successful holding of the parliamentary elections in Georgia in October last year, the formation of the new government, and her appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs within this government.

During the meetings, discussions were held on the political, security, economic and humanitarian dimensions of the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as on current regional issues.

Satisfaction was expressed with the current level of our strategic partnership relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, and it was emphasized that the active political dialogue formed at the level of the highest leadership of our countries constitutes a solid foundation of our relations.

The contribution of traditional close contacts and mutual visits between various state institutions of the two countries, including pragmatic cooperation between governments and parliaments, to our strategic partnership was discussed.

It was noted that the cooperation of our countries in international and regional formats, based on respect for each other’s legitimate interests and mutual benefit, is commendable.

Reference was made to the current state of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia in the economic sphere, and it was emphasized that large-scale projects such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars and the Southern Gas Corridor, realized thanks to the successful regional cooperation of our countries, play a significant role in enhancing economic development and social welfare in our region and beyond.

It was noted that in recent times concrete steps have been taken on specific projects in the fields of green energy and communications between Azerbaijan and Georgia, and that these projects, while increasing the importance of our countries at the global level as a supplier of clean energy and a major data transmitter, will also give an additional impetus to the sustainable development of our economies in the long term.

Against the background of the holding of the 10th, anniversary meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia in the city of Baku on 17 January, the importance of the Commission, which plays a positive role in the development of our bilateral and regional economic and trade relations, was emphasized.

The importance of the humanitarian dimension in interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia was noted, and the significance of expanding contacts, exchanges and cooperation in the fields of tourism, education, science and culture was discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed his counterpart about Azerbaijan’s efforts towards the normalization of interstate relations with Armenia and the signing of a final peace agreement. It was emphasized that these efforts are also undertaken in the name of establishing peace and stability throughout the entire South Caucasus region, as well as inclusive regional cooperation and development.

At the same time, it was brought to attention that the persistence of territorial claims against Azerbaijan in the constitution and other legislative acts of Armenia, as well as Armenia’s rapid militarization and inclination towards revanchism, undermine the peace process.

During the meeting, views were also exchanged on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.

Subsequently, the Ministers delivered statements at a press conference on the outcomes of the meeting and answered questions from journalists.
