On 13-15 January 2025, the government mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, paid a visit to the Republic of Maldives.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, was received by the Vice President of the Republic of Maldives, Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef.
Also, a bilateral meeting was held between E. Mammadov and the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed.
During the meetings, the Maldivian side highly appreciated the visit of the government mission of Azerbaijan and issues of mutual interest were discussed.
Within the framework of the visit, the first political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives were held. The political consultations were led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, from the Azerbaijani side, and by the Foreign Secretary of the Maldives, Fathimath Inaya, from the other side. During the political consultations, the expansion of bilateral and multilateral political relations, the current state and prospects of cooperation in economy and trade, energy, logistics and transport, tourism, humanitarian and other fields were discussed.
Cooperation between the two countries within international organizations was positively assessed, and the importance of strengthening mutual support activities in multilateral formats was emphasized.
An information forum was organized for the members of the government mission, including representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as company representatives operating in Azerbaijan, by the relevant state institutions of the Republic of Maldives and numerous local companies. During the forum, detailed presentations were made to the Azerbaijani representatives on investment opportunities in tourism, hospitality, transport and other sectors in the Maldives, and substantive discussions were held.
During the visit, tours to a number of industrial zones of the Maldives were organized for the members of the mission.
