No:003/20, Head of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Leyla Abdullayeva answers the question of the media
Question: What can you say about the information released by the European Parliament on the fact that it will not participate in the parliamentary elections in our country?
Answer: With regard to the early parliamentary elections to be held in our country on 9 February of this year, the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan sent invitations to the parliamentary delegations and the Parliamentary Assemblies we are a member of, as well as invitation letters were sent to the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, CIS, GUAM, Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States, BSEC, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other international and regional organizations by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In other words, the Azerbaijani side has sent invitations to observe the February 9 elections mainly to the organizations it is a member and participant of. With regard to the information released by the European Parliament (EP), firstly I would like to note that considering this information as a refusal of the EP to observe the elections is absolutely incorrect. The Azerbaijani side did not address such an invitation to the EP so that the EP refuses to it. In general, I would like to point out that our country has no commitments in front of the European Parliament. Secondly, this is information released in accordance with the EP's procedural rules, in those cases when the members of the European Parliament personally attend and observe the elections, where the EP will not participate as an observer.
