No:001/26, Press Release on the Participation of Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiev in the Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers on Somalia

On 10 January 2026, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Yalchin Rafiyev, participated in the extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers concerning Somalia.
The extraordinary meeting, held at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, aimed to support Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of attempts to recognize the “Somaliland” region as an independent state and to discuss potential joint measures in this regard.
In his remarks, Y.Rafiyev affirmed Azerbaijan’s support for the sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Deputy Minister emphasized that, as an active member of the OIC Contact Group on Somalia, Azerbaijan will support the collective efforts of the international community, including OIC member states, on this issue.
Azerbaijan’s commitment to the norms and principles of international law was also highlighted, and the international community was called upon to act responsibly and in accordance with international law to ensure peace, stability, and security in various regions, including the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea basin.
At the conclusion of the 22nd extraordinary meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, a resolution was adopted by the member states affirming unequivocal and strong support for Somalia and its territorial integrity.
