No:717/23, Press release on the meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov and Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

On 11 December 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the EU Commission, within the framework of his working visit to Brussels.
During the meeting, bilateral relations between the European Union and Azerbaijan, including within the framework of the “Eastern Partnership,” as well as the current situation in the region, were the subject of discussion.
During the meeting, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided information about the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The positive impact of recent confidence-building measures on the normalization process between the two countries was noted.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan highly appreciates the mediation efforts of Charles Michel, President of the European Council, in the normalization process. Nevertheless, he emphasized that biased statements made by some European Union officials undermine the European Union’s role as an impartial mediator in the aforementioned process.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that the establishment of neighborly relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia based on mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is the only way leading to peace, stability and security in the South Caucasus.
During the meeting, other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest were the subject of discussion.
