No:698/23, Press release on the visit of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov to the Republic of Cuba

On 4-5 December 2023, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov paid a visit to the Republic of Cuba.
On 4 December, the first political consultations were held between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba.
The political consultations were led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov on the Azerbaijani side and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elio Rodriguez Perdomo on the Cuban side.
During the consultations, discussions were held on the current state of bilateral relations, the positive dynamics observed recently in relations between our countries, and the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, healthcare, tourism, education and other areas.
E. Mammadov provided the other side with extensive information about Azerbaijan’s peace agenda, the process of normalization of relations with Armenia, and the reconstruction works carried out in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, the activities of Azerbaijan within the framework of its chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and Cuba within the framework of its chairmanship of the Group of G77 and China were also emphasized, and the holding, after a long pause, of the meeting of the NAM - G77 and China Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) at the level of foreign ministers within the framework of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly was noted with satisfaction.
Following the consultations, a signing ceremony of the “Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of a Political Consultations Mechanism between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba” was held between the two countries.
Within the framework of the visit, E. Mammadov also held working meetings with Ms. Ana Maria Mari Machado, Vice President of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba, Ana Teresita Gonzalez Fraga, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba, as well as ambassadors of the member states of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) accredited in Cuba.
During the meetings, the development of interparliamentary relations, opportunities for expanding relations between the two countries in various fields, as well as prospects for deepening cooperation ties with the CARICOM organization and its member countries at the international level were discussed.
At the end of the visit, E. Mammadov gave an interview to Cuba’s “Prensa Latina” news agency. During the interview, he answered questions about Azerbaijan-Cuba bilateral relations, prospects for the future development of these relations, our country’s successful chairmanship of NAM and the initiatives it has implemented, as well as the process of normalization of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations.
