No:666/23, Press release on the meeting of Deputy Minister Yalchin Rafiyev with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom

On 20 November 2023, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev met with the delegation headed by Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq for bilateral relations.
Y. Rafiyev stated that our country attaches special importance to the development of relations with the Republic of Iraq, with which it has historically been connected by ethnic, religious and cultural ties, and noted that the increasing dynamism in Azerbaijan-Iraq relations in recent times, in particular the first official visit of President of Iraq Abdullatif Jamal Rashid to Azerbaijan on 20 November, as well as the negotiations held and documents signed during the visit, are a clear example of this.
Y. Rafiyev emphasized the importance of continuously advancing the existing political dialogue, economic and trade relations, interparliamentary and interregional cooperation, and cultural exchanges between Azerbaijan and Iraq, and stated that mutual exchange of visits is of great importance.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was conducted on ways to continue mechanisms of mutual support between the two countries within the framework of international organizations and to intensify mutual exchange of visits.
The sides emphasized that the intergovernmental commission is an important mechanism in terms of developing cooperation in economic and trade, cultural, tourism, energy, investment and other areas of mutual interest, and expressed confidence that the next meeting of the commission, to be held in Baghdad in December of the current year, will yield effective results.
