No:650/23, Press release on the meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov with ICESCO Director-General Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik

On 13 November 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov held a meeting with Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), within the framework of his official visit to Morocco.
During the meeting, it was stated that high-level cooperation relations exist between Azerbaijan and ICESCO, and that our country attaches special importance to further expanding cooperation with Muslim countries in areas of mutual interest, including science, education and culture.
In this regard, the importance of opening ICESCO’s regional center in our country in the near future was emphasized. At the same time, plans for the implementation of joint programmes and projects in a number of areas included in the Organization’s agenda were reviewed.
It was noted with satisfaction that the city of Shusha, the cradle of culture of our country, which is known in the world for its model of multiculturalism and tolerance, was selected as ICESCO’s “Cultural Capital of the Islamic World” for 2024.
Touching upon the importance of cooperation within the framework of the Baku Process, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that ICESCO is one of Azerbaijan’s main partners in organizing the Forums on Intercultural Dialogue, and stressed that effective cooperation with ICESCO in organizing the Forum will continue next year as well.
Touching upon the latest developments in the region, the Minister stated that great damage had been caused by Armenia to our cultural and religious heritage in our territories liberated from occupation as a result of the Patriotic War and returned to our full control as a result of the local anti-terror measures carried out on 19-20 September of the current year.
ICESCO Director-General Salim AlMalik noted with satisfaction his visit to our country on 2-5 October of the current year and the high-level meetings he held within the framework of the visit. He emphasized that ICESCO highly values cooperation with our country.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
After the meeting, Salim AlMalik introduced the delegation headed by Minister Jeyhun Bayramov to the newly established “The Prophet’s Path” museum at ICESCO headquarters.
