12 October 2023 12:55

The letter addressed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov to the UN Secretary-General on 27 September 2023 regarding the results of the local anti-terror measures carried out by our country in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan and the disarmament of Armenian armed forces continuing their illegal activities in the territories, as well as the additional information containing photographs of weapons and ammunition surrendered within the framework of the disarmament process, have been circulated as documents of the UN Security Council and the General Assembly.

The letter provided information about the results of the local anti-terror measures carried out by our country in its sovereign territory in full compliance with international humanitarian law in order to end the illegal presence of Armenian armed forces posing threats to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan.

In this context, information was provided about the disarmament process of Armenian armed forces, demobilization and reintegration efforts carried out by our country.

It was stated that the volume of weapons and ammunition surrendered within the framework of the disarmament process of illegal Armenian formations is a clear example of the transformation of Azerbaijan’s sovereign territories into a militarized zone, as well as their continued large-scale supply by Armenia with destructive weapons and ammunition through illegal means contrary to the provisions of the Trilateral Statement.

It was emphasized that such destructive and insincere conduct of Armenia undermined the peace process efforts initiated by Azerbaijan and continued over the past 3 years towards ensuring peace and stability in the region.

The letter also discussed the work carried out by our country within the framework of the reintegration of the local Armenian population of the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan. It was stated that immediately after the completion of the local anti-terror measures, practical work towards reintegration was launched, a relevant working group was established, the Yevlakh meeting was held on 21 September, and the city of Khankendi was connected to Azerbaijan’s energy system on 24 September, thereby ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to the local Armenian population.

The letter also informed the UN Secretary-General about the humanitarian assistance delivered to the local Armenian population through the Lachin-Khankendi and Aghdam-Khankendi roads.

In conclusion, the unwavering commitment of our country to ensuring all rights and security of local Armenian residents, as well as to efforts towards their reintegration into Azerbaijan’s social, economic, legal and constitutional framework, was once again emphasized, and at this historic moment, the international community was called upon to strongly reject any efforts aimed at hatred and hostility and to support efforts for peaceful coexistence.
