On 11 October, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov received Toivo Klaar, Special Representative of the European Union for the South Caucasus.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the prospects of the draft peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, issues of normalization between the two countries, the latest situation in the region, and the steps taken towards the reintegration of the local Armenian population of the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that the Azerbaijani side is interested in positive results from the meetings held through the mediation of international partners, including the European Union, on the peace agenda, and that a historic opportunity has emerged to ensure peace and stability in the region after 30 years.
In this regard, it was stated that it is important for Armenia to refrain from making statements and declarations that may lead to revanchism, as well as from conducting a so-called smear campaign against our country.
During the meeting, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the other side about the work carried out towards the reintegration of local Armenian residents of the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan, and stated that the registration process of local Armenian residents is currently continuing through the electronic portal created by our side.
It was also stated that the departure of Armenian residents from the territory of Azerbaijan was not related to any forced displacement, and that the recent visits of UN officials to the region and the statements made after the visits are a clear example of this.
During the meeting, the sides also held discussions on other issues of mutual interest.
