No:578/23, Press release on the meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Mehdi Safari

On 9 October 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov received Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mehdi Safari, who is on a visit to our country within the framework of the 27th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization.
During the meeting, a number of issues on the agenda of Azerbaijan-Iran relations were discussed, and it was emphasized that the mutual high-level visits and meetings held recently have made a positive contribution to the further advancement of relations.
The sides exchanged views on the measures implemented towards the realization of the North-South transport corridor, as well as communication links between the East Zangezur economic region and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan along this route. The growing dynamics of economic and trade relations were noted with satisfaction, and in this regard, the activity of the Intergovernmental Commission between the two countries was highly appreciated.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on the latest developments in the region. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information about the local anti-terror measures carried out in order to put an end to Armenia’s political and military provocations and ensure the withdrawal of illegal Armenian armed formations from the territory of Azerbaijan.
It was stated that Azerbaijan is implementing relevant measures for the reintegration of Armenian residents within the framework of the Constitution and legislation of Azerbaijan, and that our country is interested in establishing lasting peace with Armenia on the basis of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other regional issues.
