No:547/23, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with UN Secretary-General António Guterres

On 23 September 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres within the framework of the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
During the meeting, the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and the UN, as well as the current situation in the region, were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that since our country became a member of the UN, Azerbaijan has maintained useful cooperation with the Organization, including its specialized agencies, and that the activities of the UN in our country are important.
Providing information about the current situation in the region and the normalization and peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed about the local anti-terror measures carried out by our country in recent days, which resulted in ending the presence of Armenian armed forces that had continued their illegal presence in our territories since the occupation period, contrary to the 4 resolutions of the UN Security Council, and were maintained by Armenia in the post-conflict period.
It was confidently emphasized that the aforementioned measures will contribute to the peace process, including the reintegration of local Armenian residents in the Garabagh region, in terms of eliminating the remnants of 30 years of occupation, as well as withdrawing illegal armed forces that continuously committed provocations against peace and stability in the region.
In this regard, it was stated that a meeting had already been held in recent days in the city of Yevlakh between the Government of Azerbaijan and a representative of Armenian residents, and that, in accordance with the results of this meeting, steps are being taken by our side to meet the needs of the residents and humanitarian assistance is being provided.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the UN Secretary-General about the ongoing process of disarmament of Armenian armed forces, and presented to the Secretary-General photos of military equipment, weapons and ammunition confiscated over the last three days.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
