On 22 September, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania Igli Hasani within the framework of his participation in the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, the agenda of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Albania, as well as partnership opportunities within the framework of international organizations, were discussed. Satisfaction was expressed with the intensity of high-level contacts between the two countries in recent times, including mutual visits.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed his counterpart about the latest situation in the region, as well as the reasons necessitating the local anti-terror operation in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan, the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the steps taken towards the reintegration of the Armenian population in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that despite the efforts carried out by Azerbaijan through engaged international partners, the provocative and subversive actions of Armenia and the so-called regime established by it in our territories have caused tension in the region. It was stated that the measures taken by Azerbaijan are aimed at neutralizing Armenia’s illegal military infrastructure, disarming and withdrawing the remnants of the Armenian armed forces from our territories, and that this is fully in line with the rights arising from international law and our Constitution in order to protect security in our sovereign territories.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that today a historic opportunity has emerged in the region for the practical reintegration of residents of Armenian origin of the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan, and expressed confidence that the meeting held in Yevlakh will bring positive results.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on energy, trade and economic issues on the agenda between the two countries, as well as existing investment opportunities and other topics of mutual interest.
