Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda Vincent Biruta within the framework of the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
During the meeting, prospects for bilateral, as well as multilateral cooperation between the two countries were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that, particularly during the chairmanship of our country of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Azerbaijan’s relations with a number of countries of the African region, including Rwanda, developed.
In this regard, it was stated that despite the geographical distance between the two countries, the development of cooperation between them is possible, and confidence was expressed that the mechanism of political consultations could make a positive contribution to the process.
Minister Vincent Biruta recalled with satisfaction Azerbaijan’s successful experience of chairmanship of NAM, and particularly noted the importance of significant initiatives covering the member states of the Movement, including the countries of the African region, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the meeting, the “Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda” and the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Rwanda on exemption from visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports” were also signed.
