On 21 September, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Hanke Bruins Slot within the framework of his participation in the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided his counterpart with detailed information about the nearly 30-year occupation of our territories by Armenia, the regional risks and threats arising from the illegal existence of the regime established by Armenia in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan after the 44-day Patriotic War, and Armenia’s steps undermining the peace process.
Speaking about the factors that necessitated the local anti-terror measures in the region, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided his counterpart with detailed information about the latest provocations and terrorist attacks by the so-called regime, and emphasized that the measures carried out by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in order to prevent further military provocations and acts of terrorism within the sovereign territory of our country are fully in line with international law, including the norms of international humanitarian law.
The Minister emphasized that since the continued illegal presence of the Armenian armed forces in the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan contrary to obligations is a serious obstacle to sustainable peace, it is imperative that they be unconditionally and completely withdrawn from the territory of Azerbaijan and that the so-called regime be dissolved, that military provocations and acts of terrorism committed be strongly condemned, and that statements aimed at encouraging separatist and revanchist forces within Armenia not be made.
During the meeting, it was also stated that on 20 September, as a result of the appeal by representatives of Armenian residents of Garabagh through the Russian peacekeeping contingent, local anti-terror measures were suspended, and that on 21 September, a meeting was held in the city of Yevlakh, Azerbaijan, to discuss reintegration issues, and it was stated that these steps would contribute to the removal of the obstacle on the normalization agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Afterwards, exchanges of views were conducted on other topics of mutual interest between Azerbaijan and the Netherlands.
