No:493/23, Press release on the sixth meeting of the High-Level Working Group on Caspian Sea issues

On 11-13 September 2023, the sixth meeting of the High-Level Working Group (HLWG) on Caspian Sea issues was held in the city of Ashgabat.
The delegations of the Republic of Azerbaijan (headed by S.A. Sharifov), the Islamic Republic of Iran (headed by A. Jahangiri), the Republic of Kazakhstan (headed by Z. Amanzholova), the Russian Federation (headed by M.I. Petrakov) and Turkmenistan (headed by M.G. Atajanov) participated in the negotiations.
The meeting was chaired by M.G. Atajanov, Head of the delegation of Turkmenistan.
The sides discussed the provisions of the draft Agreement on the methodology for establishing straight baselines in the Caspian Sea, and also agreed on a number of provisions of the draft. The discussion of the said document will be continued at the next meeting of the HLWG.
During the meeting, issues of preparation for the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Caspian littoral states were also discussed.
The delegations positively assessed the outcomes of the negotiations and expressed their gratitude to Turkmenistan for organizing the meeting at a high level.
The next meeting of the HLWG will be held in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
