On 31 July 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan within the framework of his official visit to the Republic of Türkiye.

A tête-à-tête meeting was held between Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Minister Hakan Fidan, and later continued in an expanded format with the participation of delegations of both sides.

At the expanded meeting, topical issues on the multifaceted bilateral, regional and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, including the current situation in the region, were discussed.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted with satisfaction the dynamics of development of relations with brotherly Türkiye in various fields, including political, economic, trade, military, defense industry, energy security, investments, humanitarian, education, culture and other fields, and emphasized that our allied relations based on friendship, brotherhood, mutual support and solidarity play an important role in maintaining stability in the region.

It was emphasized that mutual contacts between the leaders of our countries are of great importance in the development of our brotherly relations, which are based on the saying of the Great Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev, “One Nation, Two States.”

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, stating that the “Shusha Declaration on Allied Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Türkiye,” the second anniversary of the signing of which we mark this year, laid the foundation for a new stage in the history of development of relations between our countries, confidently emphasized that practical steps will continue to be taken towards further expanding our relations.

He informed the other side in detail about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the large-scale restoration and reconstruction works carried out in our liberated territories, Azerbaijan’s activities in the three directions of the peace agenda — the signing of a peace treaty, the delimitation of borders and the opening of regional communications — as well as Armenia’s provocations that threaten the advancement of the existing peace agenda.

It was emphasized that, despite Armenia’s destructive position and steps, Azerbaijan is determined and intends to advance the peace agenda. In this regard, speaking about the importance of the work carried out towards the opening of all communications in the region, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed confidence that the restoration of connectivity will further strengthen cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye Hakan Fidan stated that he would spare no effort towards further developing the existing relations between our countries, which share a common history, culture and values. It was stated that the constant support of the two countries for each other in the most difficult days is an indicator that our brotherhood is demonstrated not only in word, but also in deeds.

It was emphasized that the large-scale restoration and reconstruction works carried out by Azerbaijan in the region, including the work carried out towards advancing the peace agenda, play an important role in establishing lasting peace in the region.

During the meeting, the importance of further expanding joint activities within international organizations, particularly the Organization of Turkic States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, trilateral and quadrilateral formats with Central Asian countries, as well as other multilateral initiatives was also emphasized.

At the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.

Thereafter, at the press briefing held, the Ministers made statements on the outcomes of the meeting and answered journalists’ questions.
