No:399/23, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Muhammad Nasar Hayat, newly appointed Representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in Azerbaijan

On 20 July 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov received Muhammad Nasar Hayat, newly appointed Representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Azerbaijan.
First of all, the credentials of the Representative of the Organization were presented to Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov wished the Representative success in his activities in our country.
During the meeting, prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and FAO were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, speaking about the importance of ensuring food security in the current international conjuncture, noted in this regard that FAO’s activities are commendable. Joint projects implemented with FAO towards using the development potential of the agricultural sector in our country and strengthening food security were recalled with satisfaction. Prospects for the Partnership Programme between Azerbaijan and FAO were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also provided the other side with detailed information about the large-scale restoration and construction works carried out by Azerbaijan in the liberated territories, including the mine threat, which poses a serious threat to agriculture. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, noting that our liberated territories are being reconstructed on the basis of “smart city” and “smart village” concepts, stated that those territories have great agricultural potential. In this regard, opportunities for cooperation with international partners, including FAO, for the purpose of using the existing potential were noted.
Muhammad Nasar Hayat, noting with satisfaction the existence of a broad cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and FAO, stated that he will spare no efforts towards further developing relations in this regard. It was stated that the work carried out by Azerbaijan in the field of applying innovations in the development of agriculture, especially the initiatives implemented in the liberated territories, is commendable.
At the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
