On 13 July 2023, within the framework of the meeting of heads of diplomatic service bodies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a visit of the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and heads of our diplomatic missions accredited in foreign countries to the city of Aghdam was organized.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov, Assistant to the First Vice-President Elchin Amirbayov, the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and heads of our diplomatic missions abroad who participated in the visit first visited the Aghdam Alley of Martyrs, and laid bouquets of flowers on the graves of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland.

Then, an event titled “Revival of Aghdam” was held.

Speaking at the event with an opening speech, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about the importance of Aghdam and Garabagh for the Azerbaijani people, and stated that the deliberate destruction by Armenia of this beautiful city, once one of the most developed regions of our country, was part of Armenia’s policy of ethnic hatred and intolerance against Azerbaijan. It was stated that today, as a result of the care of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and First Vice-President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, the restoration of all our liberated territories, including Aghdam, inch by inch, is in the focus of attention. Despite existing difficulties, the scale of destruction and the mine threat, it was stated that Azerbaijan is determined to advance the process of restoring the liberated territories and ensuring the dignified return of our internally displaced persons to their native lands.

It was stated that after the end of the occupation of our lands as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War, the most important issue facing our diplomacy is to prevent steps that may pose a threat to security in our liberated territories and to mobilize all efforts towards restoration and construction works.

Emin Huseynov, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the liberated territories included in the Garabagh Economic Region, who spoke later, provided the event participants with detailed information about the large-scale restoration and construction works being carried out.

The next speaker, Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, made a presentation on the work carried out to clear the liberated territories of mines and unexploded ordnance.

Mais Amrahov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of History of Azerbaijani Culture of the A.A. Bakikhanov Institute of History, who spoke later, delivered a lecture on the history of Aghdam and Garabagh.

At the event, a video dedicated to the restoration and construction works carried out in our liberated territories was also shown.

Within the framework of the visit, the meeting participants became acquainted with the restoration and construction works carried out in Aghdam and the activities related to demining our territories. The event participants took part in a mine explosion event. The participants became acquainted with the historical and cultural heritage examples of Aghdam.

The meeting of heads of diplomatic service bodies, which started its work on 11 July, concluded with the visit to Aghdam and the “Revival of Aghdam” event.
