21 June 2023 20:50
On 21-22 June 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov participated in and delivered a speech at the Ukraine Recovery Conference within the framework of his working visit to the United Kingdom.
In his speech, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that the situation around Ukraine, which has caused numerous human losses and a humanitarian catastrophe, is a major threat to peace and security in Europe. In this regard, it was noted that Azerbaijan supports the resolution of this crisis as soon as possible within the framework of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan sent its first humanitarian assistance to Ukraine from the first days of the escalation of the situation, starting from 27 February 2022. Referring to Azerbaijan’s bitter experience in the 1990s, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that we well understand that during wars and conflicts, the civilian population, especially children, constitutes one of the most vulnerable segments of society. In this regard, it was noted that our country provided medical and socio-psychological rehabilitation services to 100 children from Ukraine, and it is planned to double this number by the end of the year.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, referring to Azerbaijan’s experience of restoration and reconstruction in the post-conflict period, noted that large-scale construction works are being carried out in the territories liberated from Armenian occupation. In this regard, it was emphasized that Armenia’s failure to provide accurate mine maps, as well as the continuation of the mine threat, threatens the work being carried out. Despite the existing difficulties, it was stated that Azerbaijan also intends to provide equipment for Ukraine in the field of demining.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, bringing to attention that Azerbaijan does not spare its experience and support regarding restoration works in the post-conflict period, noted that our country has already supported a number of construction works carried out in Ukraine, including the restoration of a school in the city of Irpin.
It was stated that our support for recovery and reconstruction efforts in Ukraine will continue.
